"Can you hear me NOW?!"...

Whirring our way back from Portsmouth on a grey and warm day, my cell phone rings. It is my youngest daughter, calling from Dad's house. She tells me all about her wey-cool day, and how excited she is about going tric-or-treating tonight. I ask her about her plans for the evening. The reception is getting a little wonky, scritchy-like and warbled.

"Well, first we are going to carve our pumpkins and make roasted seeds."

"Yeah? Wonderful!!! Those are so yummy!"

"yup. And then Emily's friend is coming over and we are going to make fake tits."

think think think...ah....

"Could you say that again, honey, I couldn't quite get that...."

"Then Emily's friend is coming over and we are making fake tits."

No. Um. That can't be right. She is only nine. Besides Emily does not need fake ones for her outfit, she is quite well distributed.

"Okay, Sweetie, can you spell out the last two words of that sentence?"

"S.T.E.A.K.T.I.P.S."

"Ah, very nice. Very yummy...okay Mommy's gotta go now...bye!"

Phew.

Like.

Really.

I had way too much coffee today. But, that was because I was at a photoshoot at 6AM in the dark, waiting for the sun, and about 300 soccer kids. It made things feel better for a while...but only for a while. Now, I am tired, and sore (see boo-boo on nose post) and wanna go to bed. But, tomorrow has Jamaican Blue Mountain Roast written all over it. Posted by Hello

Makkins...

My kids call these "makkins". At least they did for most of their lives. And, in private, they still will. It is "family language". Now, they are fearsome of my ability to wail across a crowded Topsfield Fair "Don't forget the Makkins!!!" and they have become accustomed to asking me, before we depart the vehicle, "to please, please, we beg of you, NOT speak family language at this event".

It's right up there with "You aren't going to wear THAT, are you?" and "No, Mom, um, don't worry, you just STAY IN THE CAR when you come to pick me up from cheerleading, like, ah, really, um, please????!"

Ah, but they do not realize the power I have over them with just one word!

......makkins.....
